Back in the 70's, forty years ago, Gloria Gaynor used her powerful voice to sing an inspiring message of strength and freedom: I Will Survive.
Written in the first person, the lyrics describe her (or any other person's) building up personal strength after an initially devastating breakup. It was a hit in 1979, reaching number one on radio song charts several weeks in a row. So many women danced to the song independently of men in discos; a song which they probably heard as a model of independence.
I will survive is still popular and sometimes sung as the expression of women's liberation. Read the lyrics of the song and give it a thought. Could you say some relevant line to yourself?
